This book contains the names of the heads of households for the entire Cherokee Nation just before removal, as well as details about the make-up of the families and farms. The census was taken by the U.S. government for the purpose of estimating the value of the Cherokee Nation in case the tribe as a whole did not approve of the amount the government was giving the Cherokee Nation for their homelands.
